Let me echo that your approach to a centralised analytics system is very helpful and very clearly put:

As twitter and other social opportunities grow, the challenge is to sort out the ones that drive meaningful business outcomes and the ones that are fun to play with. I know where I would prefer to be spending my time and energy!
